Preparation Begins!

The 17th is two weeks away and we are just beginning preparations for the 2009 P4A. I have to laugh because, when I worked for mainstream non-profits, two weeks would be a ridiculously short time frame for a significant event. Now, on the other hand, I feel like I’m giving myself scads of time…two weeks away and I’ve got a solid idea for how this is all going to go down! I’ve never been more prepared for an online project in my life!
We’ve been bouncing ideas around all day (we being John Green, Hank Green and Alan Lastufka) about who we think we can get involved, how we want them to be involved, and what exactly the goals are going to be this year.
The result: I think that the 2008 Project for Awesome is going to be significantly more awesome than the 2007 Project for Awesome, and that’s saying something.
Above you can see one of the main changes. Instead of everyone having the exact same thumbnail for their youtube video, we’re going to keep the same layout, but with the name of the featured charity in the thumbnail. I think this will look really awesome once we start cluttering up the most discussed and top-rated pages. Plus, people will understand more quickly what the frik is going on. Last year there was a lot of confusion.
Additionally, we’re putting together this site, which will be a clearing house for information on the P4A. It’s part of the overall attempt to broaden the scope of the P4A. You might have noticed that the word Nerdfighter has yet to be seen on this page. Nerdfighters (being the people who watch my brother and I on youtube) are a huge part of what inspires me to do good work, and work hard on things like the Project for Awesome. But I want everyone to feel welcome and involved, even if they hate my videos.
There are going to be some other big changes to the format as well, but for now those will remain in my pocket (because the details have not been settled.) But rest assured, 2008 (already a great year in the history of awesome) is going out with a bang.

I’m so excited to hear that you are doing a second Project of Awesome!
That was one of the highlights of last year in 2008 for me.

Sorry, Grammar Nerdfighter, here.
P.S. I don’t mean to be a jerk or nitpicky or anything, but in the beginning you said you are just beginning preparations for the 2009 P4A. This threw me off a tad; I think you meant 2008.

3 Make a video in which you talk about your favorite video. (You can also talk about spoons, puppies, democracy or whatever else you feel like.)
*Make a video in which you talk about your favorite charity.

There are some allusions to it still be the 14th on this site.

It might be confusing.
Can’t wait!!!
I didn’t get to participate last year, but this year I’m making my own…making one with my collab channel, and spending the day commenting!
